Description:
Myocardial infarction, commonly known as a heart attack, occurs when blood flow to a part of the heart muscle is blocked, usually by a blood clot in a coronary artery. This interruption deprives the heart tissue of oxygen, leading to tissue damage or death if not promptly treated. Common symptoms include chest pain, shortness of breath, nausea, and sweating. Myocardial infarction is a medical emergency that requires immediate attention to restore blood flow and minimize heart damage, often through medications, angioplasty, or surgery.
This piece was illustrated to be part of a two-page journals spread, outlining both the macro and micro-level effects of an infarction event, and the consequences to the cardiac tissue long-term.
